Beef
The Cowichan 4-H Beef club has been active in the Cowichan Valley for over 60 years and is currently lead by 4-H leaders that participated in the 4-H program themselves.
Our club meets once a month, virtually or in person to discuss club business and activities, and upcoming events. While the 4-H year officially starts in January, our members start with their project training as early as October for the upcoming year.
Members participate in all of the Program aspects of 4-H, including Public Speaking, Educational Board displays, Demonstrations, and judging competitions and are encouraged to participate at Club, District, Regional and Provincial levels if the opportunities are presented. We do many fun fundraising events throughout the community and work closely with our sponsors during community events including the Annual fireworks at the Cobble Hill Country Grocer.
With our projects we co-ordinate group weigh-ins, vet checks and informative care, grooming and showing, care demonstrations. We are lucky to have an abundance of knowledge throughout our community and people who want to share this with the young members.
We attend many shows and fairs throughout Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, with opportunities for members to travel to the interior of BC for shows as well. Shows and Fairs we regularly attend include the Island 4-H Beef Spring Show, which hosts members from all over British Columbia to kick off our year, Maple Ridge Country Fest, The Fair at the PNE, Cobble Hill, Saanich Fair, and we end the 4-H year at the Cowichan Exhibition with our Club Achievement Day and Beef Sale.
The Cowichan 4-H Beef club is always welcoming new members, including the opportunity to participate in the program as part of the club without the commitment of the project for your first year, this will allow you to actively participate in all of the aspects of the Beef Club program activities while working with other members and their projects and learning what it would be like to take on a project like Beef Cattle for yourself.
