What is 4-H?

Our Motto is "Learn To Do By Doing"

4-H is an educational program for youth ages 6-19. Members who are ages 6-8 (on Dec 31st) can enroll into the Cloverbud program. This is a discovery program for the younger level to get an understanding of what comes ahead when they turn 9 (by December 31st)

Cloverbuds observe projects through guest speakers at meetings, field trips, or doing activities to understand a project better. Unlike their older peers they do not manage a project (ie-raise an animal, build an engine)

4-H members are ages 9 plus (on Dec 31st) and must manage a project, keep an accurate record of all that the project consists of (feeding record, cost of motor parts, health record of an animal) and present the project before a judge to attain a passing mark at Achievement Day

Members are able to continue on beyond 19 as returning members up until 21 years old with a special project.

In addition to the project work in 4-H members also participate in the Communications program. This could be Public Speaking, doing a Demonstration with a partner, presenting a Speak and Show topic or creating an Educational Display

The 4-H year begins in January with the busiest time being between May and September. Members are expected to participate for the full year to achieve. There are many opportunities for members (camps, travel, bursary/scholarships, and high school credits) who continue and complete the program.

4-H clubs do fundraise for such things as uniforms, supplies needed for hands-on learning or travel to field days. All of the expenses of the project are the member/family responsibility (cost to purchase/lease animal, housing/feed/health care of animal)
